Dr. Anura P. Jayasooriya (Dr Jayasooriya in shorten) was born in 1967. He attended Royal College, Colombo, Sri Lanka for his primary and secondary education. He obtained his first degree; BVSc from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 1994. Dr. Jayasooriya is an inventor and he obtained two patents for his products while having one product patent pending. He is a presidential award winner for best scientific research in 2014 and he was able to win second and third places under sanitation category and import substitute category at the “Sahasak Nimewum”, National Inventions and Innovations Exhibition in 2012 for the product “Oxifoam” co-invented with Dr.Gamika. The outcomes of most of the research projects carried out by Dr . Jayasooriya in collaboration with Dr. Gamika have been protected as trade secrets and those products are now being marketed by Vetgrow.
Dr. Jayasooriya obtained his Master’s Degree in Biochemistry & Nutrition from (research), Miyazaki University, Japan in 2000 and PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry & Physiology (research) for Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne and Howard Florey Institute of Experimental Physiology & Medicine, University of Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Jayasooriya is a senior lecturer and current head in the Department of Basic Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science and the Director of Veterinary Medical Education Unit of the faculty and the Head of the Department of Basic Veterinary Sciences. He is the Coordinator in Industry based Training Programme for veterinary students and the Coordinator in the Animal Nutrition Teaching Program at, University of Peradeniya. He works as a member of the Committee for Animal Feed, Sri Lanka Standard Institute (SLSI). He is also a member of the Sri Lanka Acupuncture Foundation and Sri Lanka Veterinary and a fellow of the Sri Lanka College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Dr. Jayasooriya served as a member of the Board of Management, Lucky Lanka Milk Processing PLC (As an independent non-executive director) from 2014 to 2016. He was a consultant in Nelna Poultry Farms (PVT) Ltd, Sri Lanka as well as a consultant on nutritional matters to the Mawbima Lanka Foundation, (NGO), Sri Lanka in 2009.
